John Toney-Animal Control Officer

The Animal Control officer provides day-to-day services intended to protect the public's life, health, and welfare by the prompt, efficient and humane enforcement for the animal control ordinance. The Officer operates the animal shelter efficiently, and humanely providing clean and sanitary confinement with fresh food and water.

The City of Pinehurst Animal Control Ordinance requires that all dogs be registered with the City. Annual Proof of rabies immunization is required. It is required that all dogs receive rabies vaccination by the time the dog is four months of age and once each year thereafter. If you need more information, please check with City Hall for copy of the City Ordinance.

Stray Pets are held 72 hours and may be available to the public for adoption.

Impounded dog which is not claimed by an owner within the three days following the day of its impoundment may be released to any person for a fee. The decision to place an animal for adoption is in the sole discretion of the authorized Control Officer.

Hours of Operation:

Animals can be viewed, reclaimed, or adopted in the following hours:

8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Closed Saturday and Sunday

Fees:

Pickup Fee - $15.00

Boarding Fee - $5.00 per day

Euthanasia Injection - $10.00 plus Pickup Fee $15.00

Adoption Fee - $15.00

Quarantine Fee - $10.00 per day plus vaccination fee

Dogs at large:

It shall be unlawful for any owner or keeper to willfully permit any dog to run large within the City. At any time such dog is at large, the Animal Control officer will issue a citation to the owner or keeper, followed up with the City Municipal Court.

Number of animals limited:

Single-Family dwelling: It shall be unlawful for any person to keep, harbor, possess, maintain, or allow to be kept, harbored, possessed, or maintained more than four dogs or four cats or a combination of such animals with the total number exceeding three over four months old, upon or within the premises of a single-family dwelling owned, occupied, or under the control of such person.

Multiple dwelling: It shall be unlawful for any person to keep, harbor, possess, maintain, or allow to be kept, harbored, possessed, or maintained more than two dogs or two cats or a combination of such animals with the total number exceeding two, over four months old, upon any premises or within any apartment of a multiple dwelling structure.
